Got myself a new SIM on Saturday with T-Mobile and I want to keep my number that I had with Orange PAYG. Given that they're supposed to be working together as part of EE, the following really is retarded:

  • Look on the EE website - it says that I don't need a PAC, just phone Customer Services on the old phone
  • I ring them to be told that I do need a PAC and the website is wrong
  • I then get told that I can't authorise the change as it was registered to my mum way back in the mists of time so she needs to speak to my mum
  • I tell the operator that I've been using it for years but that I appreciate she has to follow rules so here's my mum's number
  • She rings my mum and then proceeds to ask her questions such as "How much was topped-up the last time?"
"I don't know" says my mum. "I haven't used it in years"

  • Operator finally accepts the authorisation and tells me that they will generate the code and text it to me in 6-8 hours
  • I will then have to fill in an online form including the PAC and send it to EE so that EE can talk to EE, remove me from EE's systems and put me on EE's system
  • I've just received a text saying (mistakes intentional):
    Quote:
Hi From Orange ...... Thanks for doing buissness with us for any further query please call us on tollfree no 08000790006 Thanks

Seriously?

That sucks. When we switched my misus from Vodafone PAYG to Orange EE (contract the other month) it was dead simple.
She phone up Vodafone while she was in the EE shop. They said the PAC text would take an hour or two, but they could read it out over the phone straight away if she had a pen to hand. She did. We got the PAC code there and then and gave it straight to EE. Within twentyfour hours the number had been switched over.

Update:

After telling me it'll take 6-8 hours, they've

  • rung me to tell me that they can't text me the PAC number I need
  • tried to transfer me to the PAC department so they can tell me the code over the phone
  • put me on hold and then cut me off
  • sent me an illiterate text saying that the code will now take 24 hours
1. Take fist
2. Ram it through own face

Don't go to EE please! It is abysmal. I will be leaving and going to Three as soon as possible.

Three are all right except that I do seem to get a few sales calls asking me if I want to upgrade even though I am a long way from being able to upgrade.

Three has no 3G in Belfast, so no good for me.

I switched over from Three to EE and it's great. Three plagued me with phonecalls ALL THE TIME, sometimes up to 10 a day.
