http://www.techradar.com/news/car-tech/ ... it-1217586It always did sound crap to me, and I know few people who replaced their traditional sets. They basically thought they'd get away with it if enough hype was made.

I had a couple of really expensive DAB radios which were useless in my last home as it was so low down in a valley. I have a similar problem now with interference from a metal infrastructure where I live now. So for now I mainly listen to the radio via streaming with my iOS devices and the TuneIn Radio App.

I ditched my DAB hifi separate when it broke. It was pointless to repair. The only DAB radio in the house is in the kitchen, and that was a gift.

Depends where you are. When I’m down on Mersea Island, FM reception can be dreadful. DAB is far superior in that respect.

I admit to being an early adopter. I've had DAB radios of varying kinds and quality since the early 2000s.
Reception here is pretty good, but then I'm barely a kilometre from the nearest transmitter. There's a DAB radio sitting next to me right now, tuned almost permanently to Radio 4 Extra. I have a Pure Highway portable DAB radio - which I can use in my car through the FM radio - and it then becomes much more noticeable where the signals are poor.
I've always had a beef about the audio quality. BBC Radio 4 Extra, which I still call BBC7, is mono, yet broadcasts stereo on the web. They blame the bandwidth, but as with digital terrestrial TV if they got rid of the dross channels that hardly anyone listens to they could increase the bandwidth. I occasionally scan through the stations, and I still don't know what most of them are there for.
Whatever happens, though, they will never be able to switch off the FM signals. There'd be uproar if the silent majority suddenly couldn't hear The Archers any more!

I haven't bought a new radio since 1998. I only listen in the car and then it is mainly podcasts or audiobooks.

I only listen tp DAB on TV. When I bought a new stereo for my kitchen the reception was crap so I reverted back to FM. Not really tried it in the car yet either.

I recently bought (second hand) a little Sony DAB radio. I funnel its output through the speakers in my room when I’m working. I’m finding it rather interesting. I got too used to working in silence, despite having an iTunes library full of stuff. At times, it’s interesting to catch something new.
