I haven't seen a Samsung from the flip-phones onwards that didn't do weird, unnecessary sh1t or just outright breakdown. I bought an 'early smartphone' a few years ago and saw that nothing had improved in that regard, never again.

I would have thought that Samsung would have resolved those issues by now?

I've seen far too many freezes and full-on bricking of other people's Samsungs recently to suggest otherwise... Even chargers that stopped working after a few months, and not being able to charge via USB in some cases. Even my Sony isn't that arsey lol.

My old Sony which is more than 8 years old never had that sort of problem. My iPhone has needed a reset a couple of times but other than that has been pretty reliable.

Doggcatcher (Podcasts) and Audible (audio books) also suffer. I won't be getting another Android phone. Seriously looking at a Lumia 925 vor 1520... Although a 520 would probably be OK for most of my needs.

I dug out my HTC Mozart WP7 phone to use as a Podcast device.

I can heartily recommend the 625

Though I did think my charging port had died [LOUDLY CRYING FACE] though on closer inspection a piece of fluff was lodged in there so a careful use of tweezers fixed it .

Have you tried a different music player, something like Poweramp perhaps?

Poweramp, winamp, apollo, mx player, VLC

Does it regardless of player, music location, rooted/unrooted, airplane mode.

Out of ideas as to what will stop it, it's out of warranty anyway (even if I could ask a favour from a Samsung rep) and others have the issue.

I have managed to keep 16Gb free on my 64Gb iPhone. I have hundreds of apps but am only trying those that need right now.

5GB seems to be about par for a decently optimised smartphone/tablet OS these days. Scarey when you think you used to be able to get an entire desktop PC OS with GUI into a fraction of that.

Remember when Bill Gates said that you would never need more than 640 k for programs?
