http://www.independent.co.uk/news/engin ... 88320.htmlI am pretty sure that “water round the fusebox” means an emergency response is needed. This would be the electrical equivalent of a gas leak. Big explosions, fire and likely damage to more hardware unto whatever trip system the National Grid has in place. If Cameron had gone in and flipped the trip back on, we’d be awaiting the 1922 Committee to decide which of the remaining high ranking Tories should take on the job of leader (and thus PM), the outcome of a by-election in Witney, and much handwringing about shoddy responses from the electricity companies on the telly.

When I worked for british gas, all major politicians had codes on the account page. Which meant any call out was given instant prority and was handled by a different team than the normal gas guys. In this case there may have been no intervention from people inside or outside the company but just an automatic response.

That seems far more credible than they were diverted by some employee. Though why should MP's have such priority to start with? It might help if they have to experience the same problems as their constituents.

It's just the deal. If your welfare has anything to do with national security, then the gas board, the AA, various squads of armed police, Vodafone and Greggs the baker will all give you special treatment.
You will also get a much bustier class of hooker, and a frothier brand of cocaine than us mere mortals.

Exactly the same if my MD says this must happen - suddenly there is no need to do all the normal project controls and the finance team sign off on any and all of the Purchase orders.

Yes, but it doesn't mean they're not selfish dicks. Call me strange, but I want our prime minister not to be a selfish dick.

Problem is that either they are because they seek the job, or it turns them into selfish dicks.
