Is it just me, or does that looks like one giant joint?
I'm not making light of a very sad story, by the way, just the photo...

From Sir Patrick Stewart's twitter feed

1) The look on Sir Ian McKellan's face
2) I believe they're taking the mickey out of the Americans and their curiously misnamed version of 'football' due to it being the superbowl this weekend as I remember. I sincerely hope so, because I very much doubt a lot of Americans will realise.

You know what? I don't have a twitter account nor do I "follow" anyone but it's stuff like that that makes me think of signing up.

Germans lose their taste for beer as drinkers increasingly switch to wine

My best guess would be a health/social aspect :|

As much as I enjoy watching the sport... do you mean them calling it football and not hand-egg?

The best justification I heard over the weekend from an American trying to justify the name was (seriously) "It's called football because you play it on foot rather than while riding a horse".

I do an 11.5hr day on a Monday, and today's added excitement was covering two classes I've never taught before for someone who's off sick.
Been a bit busy.

11.5 hours plus an hours driving for me yesterday.

ION, I was driving to work last week and there is a long right hander. The road was snowy and icy. There was a large HGV 2 cars in front. The woman in a Fiat Pinto in front of me decided that a long blind corner, on an icy road, is the best place to overtake the HGV! I saw her pull out and thought 'this isn't going to end well.' I came off the accelerator and hovered over the brake. Then I saw a yellow Mercedes Sprinter appear from around the corner coming in the other direction.

The woman couldn't see the van coming until it was too late. She tried to brake, but lost control and spun in front of the HGV. She missed the van by less than a hand width and landed in the ditch on the other side of the road, causing considerable damage to the front end. The van was lucky and didn't lose control and carried on. The HGV didn't seem to notice the accident, he didn't stop.

I had stopped about 100M before the accident, so I drove past the accident pulled over and went back to the Punto. The woman got out and was okay. The van driver had driven to the roundabout a few hundred metres further on, then came back. It turned out it was the decorator that we use at work! Luckily everybody was okay, no injuries and the woman got away with an expensive lesson.

Whenever I come over here it never ceases to amaze me how obsessed the American's are about guns. Everyone has them!

I am off to Houston at some point and Texans are just as mad about them as any. The last time I was there the only time I saw them was on the police but it could be in the cinema, the chemists or the supermarket. I did not see any guns other than that.
