a while ago my pc was on a 6800GT gfx card and a crappy venice cpu and asus motherboard, It started acting as though its overheating and artifacting and freezing totally. So I bought a new motherboard, a new duel core CPU, a new 8800GT gfx card, and I got rid of the ram and bought 2gbs of it, Ive still kept my alienware PSU (500w) and it artifacts the same way :( so what the hell is it thats causing this when ive replaced everything?? do I need a better pc case? cos the one I got is crap but I wouldve thought itd be ok etc. saying that the side window is open always and the side window had a fan but I doubt thats the case (lol pun) thats causing the artifacts? with both old parts and new parts the artifacts graphically are identical. Whats odd is If I play a pc game and it works fine, If I exit the game and go onto menu and load another map/track etc etc It will suddenly lockup and artifact, but If I leave it on the same level it will be fine :? hope someone has an answer as its feckin annoying me now

What are your CPU, GFX and HDD temperatures?

The weather is kinda hot now, and I've had to temporarily mod my PC that used to run at 35C but is now 20 degrees hotter.

In other words, it might be the case and the PSU not drawing enough air. Otherwise, it may be down to drivers. Check you've got the latest everything.

Your expensive bits are probably fine. My money is on the GFX temperature, since hot GFX memory causes artefacts. If the side is open, use a desk fan to blow more air in.

I think you have diagnoses the problem already -

I would say the problem is probably a dying PSU, sounds to like a 12V rail is becoming unstable.

I would agree. You most likely have some issues with PSU stability so first look at cooling. If the PSU is staying cool, it could be dying. This is probably the most likely cause of your problems.

Also, are these problems normal?      Sorry Bratty, just couldn't resist.

Depends if it’s an air brick or not, I suppose.

Yep, sounds like your PSU is becoming unstable.

I usually work around it by putting a MAHOOSIVE fan running next to my Case, with the side off.

With a jumper! :D

Haha

What lead you to that conclusion?

The fact that he had already replaced everything else or something based on the problems?

Everything else has been replaced and it's still got the same issue. Artifacting is almost always either the card or psu

This... CLICKY!... is artifacting.

:D

When things seem to protrude from where they should be in straight lines and stuff.

Basically it's strange goings on with the graphics.

A jumper? As in the woollen contraption used to keep people warm, or a computer jumper to connect 2 pins?

Joe
