My grandmother was one of the first people to use insulin to control diabetes. My father remembers that she had to grow it herself in petri dishes in the 60's.
Towards the end of her life she let doctors try a variety of treatments on her, especially eye treatments and I like to think she helped develop palliative treatments for young.
I'm really glad that science is finally reaching a cure for Type 1 diabetes.
