I thought they already had to resit failed GSCE's seeing as they can't leave at sixteen any more.

It is compulsory here (well, German and Math) for 6th form and college, along with an hour of sport.

Yeah, we used to have PE (sports) once a week during A-levels, even though it wasn't an A-level subject.

Compulsory in France too. Even people choosing to do language based subjects have at least 1hr math/ week. People doing sciences had 2 hrs French lit and 2 hrs philosophy
