Given the unbelievably [LIFTED] output of every broadcaster that does operate "in the real world", no thanks.

This. The vast majority of people who say the BBC should be funded the way the rest of the world's TV is funded need to get out and see a bit more of it. Almost without exception it is either a) expensive or b) [LIFTED] or c) both.

The old adage roughly applies - 'it's the worst system for funding television we've developed, apart from all the other ones'.

I've always though it was worth paying for to avoid adverts.
What I object to is the Sky model. Paying for TV and having to watch adverts.

Same here. I am happy to pay to have no adverts. Same applies to mobile apps.

The quality of what is coming out of the BBC is amazing for a national TV broadcaster. France charges 133 euros a year for some rubbish chat shows, reruns of midsomer murders and a couple naff police shows.

You only have to see what the commercial stations produce to realise what a gem the BBC is.

Indeed. The majority of channels we have on cable are vehicles for US TV content. The fact that the BBC is very much in the minority for producing its own content is something we should be fighting to hold on to.

I suspect that this has been pushed by commercial companies to weaken the BBC significantly.
