A bit more for Morrisons than the others. Maybe because they're the small guy here.

The ones that will suffer in a price war will be the farmers and suppliers, they're the ones that I feel sorry for. You can bet the supermarkets will protect their markup, they'll just squeeze their suppliers further still.

That was how the horse meat scandal started. It is one reason why I am continuing to cut the processed foods out of my diet.

Morrisons suffer as their stores tend to be smaller. We bypass Morrisons and go to Asda. I prefer the atmosphere in Morrisons, but they just don't have the selection that Asda has. I've no idea how the prices compare as I hardly ever compare them.

Asda is cheaper on specific items but overall many items can be bought cheaper elsewhere. Aldi are cheap if they stock it. There stores are smaller as well.

Supermarkets are having a tough time right now. Morrison's have the advantage that they own most of their stores so could be valuable as a take over target.

Which of the big supermarkets don't own their own stores? They're hardly likely to be renting them of each other. I doubt Tesco, Asda or even Sainsbury's could take over Morrisons without falling foul of competition law. Aldi or Lidl maybe?

Some have done sale and lease backs of some of their stores. There are also covenants that stop them being sold to competitors. There was something about a recent low carbon store built by Sainsbury being demolished even though it is only 15 years old because it is unsuitable for the current owners. Sainsbury moved to a bigger store only a few miles down the road. Though no other supermarket could buy its store because of the covenant, so it is being demolished.
