It was quite an original film back in the mid 80's but I suppose time has dulled its effectiveness. One scene involving Julia, a hammer and a guy she'd picked up shocked me at the time. All are great, particularly Nightmare on Elm Street.

I love being scared by a good horror but while yes it was original it was not scary for me.

Would you like a 3hr documentary on the making of Aliens? You would? Okay then, here you go. That link also connects to behind the scenes material for Alien, Predator, 2001 : A Space Odyssey, Star Wars original trilogy, Total Recall, The Terminator, T2, Superman the Movie and Jaws. (8+) Mark

Aliens, Alien, Alien 3, Alien Resurrection of the original run. Not sure where I'd put Prometheus but I do like it.
For a modern audience Alien 3 would maybe be their Alien, it's certainly quicker-paced for today's crowd. I mean it's basically a re-run of Alien in a different setting.

When I saw Alien 3 at the cinema, I was disappointed. That would teach me to read the book beforehand, the book being from the screenplay that Fincher worked to, not the modified version that was the cinema release. So there was quite a lot missing, and a few scenes that made little sense. I knew it had been in development hell, but it was only later that I do earned how troublesome the studio execs had been, and that Fincher was the last in a long line of directors who had been attached to the project.
The extended "director's cut" in the Quadrilogy, and more recently the Blu Ray releases is a much better outing, and the missing/altered scenes that I had read in the book were there. It's certainly flawed, but far less of a disaster that some may describe it as. I prefer to hand that honour to the fourth film in the series.
