We have a 32" FullHD panel, we could fit something bigger in the room, but there isn't enough good stuff on TV to warrant replacing it. The 32 is big enough.

Snap. We didn't see the need for anything bigger. Plus the picture is less sharp as the size increases. So we bought a high quality 32" smart TV. It's very handy for iPlayer.

Never bought into Blu-ray.
Getting a player for each set in the house so that the discs could be watched on each set in the house is prohibitive. DVD players generally get demoted from main TV to guest room. So the guests can watch any dvd that I own.
Having said that, my Apple TV now also allows me to watch all my dvd's so in the future I might buy a BR player. IF the discs are easy to rip onto my server.
What are the chances of a 4K disc being DRM free and easy to rip I wonder?

32" 720p telly in the lounge. I *might* replace it, but only because it's old and one of the HDMI ports is dead and the other is a bit hit and miss; but it'll likely be another 32". My son has a bigger telly on his bedroom wall - FIFA 14, nuff said.

There is software to do that. Though I've had issue with it using the audio commentary as the sound file rather than the normal audio.

Playback software like VLC allows you to select which audio to play with the video. However, you can manually select the correct audio track if you fully re-author it in the same fashion as DVD Shrink, allowing you to strip out trailers, additional content and foreign language audio.
