What's everyone's problem with Javascript?

HTML = structure
js = function
CSS = style

As long as it degrades I have no problem with it, for example using jquery to append target="_blank" to every anchor in a post body is probably the easiest was of doing it.

Same here, to an extent.

No it's not. In this system, changing the PHP template page to include it would be easiest. Infact, I would say that's one of the best examples of bad JavaScript. That sort of task should never be done client-side, it should clearly be done server-side. That's the sort of stuff that irritates me, but it's not the only thing.

Irritating pop-up boxes is a big one. Sometimes it's adverts, sometimes it's when you accidentally move the cursor over a word which activates some sort of artificial tool-tip. They quite often don't delete themselves when the cursor has moved on which is really annoying.

The sort of JavaScript I like is the stuff that clearly provides a better user experience. Stuff like making a box go red if it fails validation after it loses focus, or the auto-fills that they put on Google a little while ago.

It's buggy and it's a horror to program.

But how often does it work? I get loads of 'ajax' errors on Facebook. When it was a static site, I didn't get any of these errors.

Surely a discussion about javascript should be in another thread not this one.

I do but I choose not to use them.
The more people post in this thread the longer it stays stickied.
