Gastro bugs

Been bed ridden past 2 days with one, missed an evening out bowling with friends and a trip to Derby to see some other friends thanks to it :(

Think it's all down to someone either not having proper bathroom hygeine (not exactly hard in an office) or something from public transport

Nothing to do with the 8 pints and Kebab you had the other night ;)

Firefox 29!

Switches tabs above address bar, takes away option to move it back. Install add on to remedy but PIA to use and looks wrong anyway. Decide to concede and go ahead with tabs on top, but now bookmark toolbar icons have disappeared. Goodbye firefox, hello Chrome.

Any other browsers I could be considering whilst I'm still in a transitioning mood?

Opera

Uses the same Blink engine as Chrome but it has gestures built-in.

Hah! I was actually meant to be out for bowling + food Wednesday night but my colleague went home ill so we called it off for the time being as I started feeling a bit iffy, turns out for the best really as I've been pretty much bedridden since

I went to have a look at Chrome as we use it at work for a couple of things. However I ended up with loads of pop-ups and rather than having to find and install the apps I needed went for a downgrade of firefox instead. It looks like there has been a bit of an uproar and so I reckon they'll bring back what I need before it becomes a major security concern.

I remember why I virtually never use itunes any more. Downloaded an album on to my computer. Tried to transfer it to iphone via itunes. What does itunes want to do? Download everything I've ever purchased and stick it on my phone but then complain it cannot find the music folder despite adding the frikkin play list. It's taken me 90 mins and I'm still nowhere near getting the album on to the iphone.

Meanwhile copy folder to SD card and can play straight away in my car.

So the Student Loan Company (SLC) decided to sell/pass on my outstanding loans to another company so they were no longer directly on the governments books.
The new company, Erudio Student Loans (ESL), didn't send me any paperwork to tell me that this had happened and the only notice I got from SLC was a name change on the letter I received confirming that my loans had been deferred for a year (didn't exactly stand out). A bit pants to be sure but not worth getting bothered about... until ESL ignored my loan deferment and started taking money off me (see tails of fail).

So, I phone up ESL to find out what the heck they think they're playing at. They claim that SLC didn't tell them that I had deferred my loans for a year and they'd look into it.
I got a letter on Saturday saying thanks for my complaint, they were looking into it and would respond within 8 weeks. 8 WEEKS!
How can it possibly take up to 8 weeks to sort out a simple clerical error - especially when I sent them a copy of the deferment confirmation from SLC?

Gah! I swear this is a ploy to make it so much hassle to defer repayment of loans that everyone gives up.

I don't know if there's anything here of use, I just remembered you mentioning it

Interesting read. Thanks.

The saga continues however.
It took ESL a month (well, okay less 2 days) to refund the money they took off me. As part of their complaints procedure they say that collection activity will be suspended while they investigate and until they have issued their final response. Imagine my surprise then, 2 days after they'd refunded the first lot of money they took out of my bank account they took the same amount again. Not only that, but they sent me a letter dated a day before they took the second payment to update me on the progress (or lack thereof) of their investigation which reiterated that collection activities would be suspended until they had issued their Final Response (their emphasis, not mine).

They're getting a somewhat snotty letter (recorded delivery) for their troubles and quite frankly I no longer care what their Final Response will be. In my opinion this level of aggressive incompetence is simply not acceptable for a body handling anything to do with money, let alone student loans.
Once I've completed their complaints procedure I will be referring them to the Financial Services Ombudsman and will be kicking up as much stink as I possibly can (hello Watchdog).

After reverting to FF28 I set automatic updates to ask for permission, but it went right ahead and installed FF29 anyway. I've now reverted to FF28 again and set updates to never, and now it asks me, and threatens to ask me again if I don't update now. Bloody thing is getting as bad as IE used to be.

Either the night engineer is a lazy piece of [LIFTED], or the office are incompetent [LIFTED] and haven't told him he needs to be here.
Either way the night engineer hasn't shown up, so I'm now on 24 hour call for this very busy, very fast, technically challenging well.
The best the office can do is say they might be able to get someone here with the right certification by wednesday. We'll be a third of the way through the well by then,
Looks like I'm not getting much sleep for the next few days.

It's gets better.
The new night engineer who was supposed to arrive today (as a replacement for the one who didn't show up a few days ago) doesn't have any of the required safety paperwork.
At this rate I'm going to drill the entire well by myself.

Why the bloody hell doesn't the Beeb leave iPlayer alone? Every time they fix one bit of it they break something that previously worked fine!

On the PS3 at least it's lost all my favourites (every fcuking time that happens with an update).

You can't just bump the time indicator along any more, no, you select a speed, and dear love you if you want to jump to somewhere near the end cos it's a long wait. And it's not like Netflix or something where you get a preview of what's going by.

The screen is filled with info and options - I'll watch Good Morning Britain if I want that sh1t.

The one thing it has going for it is that it's generally very quick - remarkable given it's operating on a PS3.

It would seem it can only hold 10 favourites too now - no amount of Googling has provided an answer to this cock-up :x :x :x

Asked the iPlayer team why favourites now only holds ten shows on the PS3...

Quote:
We understand that you are not happy with the new iPlayer layout.

We can inform you that we've fully released a new version of BBC iPlayer on computers, tablet, mobile and some connected TVs. We feel the new BBC iPlayer is simpler, more visual and easier to browse with some great new features.

A major focus of this release is making it easier to find something to watch. With 42% of visitors now coming without a particular programme in mind, the new BBC iPlayer can help you discover something new.

It went on and on listing all the supposedly great new features, all of which are utterly pointless in comparison to what they replaced, or existed in the first place!

I don't give a flying fcuk about 'finding something to watch' - it's a fcuking catch-up service! :x

Consequently, I'm using iPlayer LESS since nobody in their right mind could remember or would sit typing in the names of all the shows they used to watch EVERY SINGLE TIME.

What sort of a moron came up with this? If they haven't been shot yet I don't mind borrowing one of Bratty's .22s and doing the job myself...

Why does everyone here have to be so half-arsed about everything they do? It's quite easy

  1. Set up the label template so it knows what the data fields are called
  2. Set up the printer config table so it tells the software to write a label command file to the label data folder
  3. Set up the Printing service to scan the label data folder for command files

How can that end up like spaghetti?

Christ on a Megabus, why does updating your product inevitably involve breaking it these days? Firefox, iPlayer...
