So, I took the plunge and updated my Mac Pro from Mountain Lion (10.8.5) to Mavericks (10.9.3).

Since doing so Time Machine periodically appears to run a complete backup of the drive I keep may photos on. So far it only seems to do it if the mac has been off for more than a day but when it does that's 140+ GB of stuff being copied. As far as I can tell there's nothing changing on the Photos drive (last modified on a selection of files I've checked are correct). Disk Utility reports the photo drive as being fine as well.

Any ideas? At this rate my 2TB backup drive will be full fairly quickly.
