Last Passenger - Yay! Really strange characters in a boring setting! Couldn't even finish it.

Battle of the Damned - It's a Dolph Lundgren zombie movie, you should only watch it if drunk or you really can't think of anything else to do.

'Ooh, new releases!'

I might watch Pacific Rim again. And Man of Steel just to laugh at it.

Crave - Takes ages to go nowhere interesting. It's just a mixture of better thrillers from decades ago.

Edge of Tomorrow - Curious one this... usually the first half of a film is the better, that's reversed here. The problem is that a lot of people will have lost all interest by the half-way point. There were six of us in the 'VIP screening' and I wondered what the noise was that didn't match what was happening onscreen - it turned out a punter was snoring! You'd think people would have been raging, but it turned out I was the only person who was fully conscious!

It's not even that there's little happening in the first half, it's just that the cameos and action scenes aren't exciting (the 'baddies' are whirling CGI) and it's getting the plot device out of the way. After that it really picks up.

I left the film reasonably happy but it could have been stellar with a bit more work. Put it this way, I imagine most people will find it rather dull at home, as might I, in fact.

The Purge - The first clue was when 'Platinum Dunes' appeared onscreen... Ten minutes I lasted.

I really liked this film. It takes a standard trope and uses it in a way that is cinematically fresh.
I don't really care that others might not like the first half and then not make it to the second.
It'll be their loss.
I never found it to be lacking my interest in the first half. We already know the thrust of the story, so it's what develops from that and how it uses that which is the interesting aspects, and for me it doesn't fail to deliver on that premis.

Maleficent

An interesting alternative telling of Sleeping Beauty. Jolie does a very good job of recreating Disneys cartoon villain.
Definitely best for kids (although very young ones should probably give it a skip).
I thought the CGI mostly worked well although some of the magical creatures that live in the Moores were a bit weak.

I found the first half dull because it didn't do anything especially well IMO - it couldn't even fall back on the old 'OMG!!! CGI IS AMAZING!!!' level of damning it with faint praise. It's a 'time travel' film and there will always be issues around that, but it's not helped when it continually reminds you of other films until it can somewhat shake those shackles off. Video game players will also be very familiar with the feelings evoked!

I wouldn't envy anyone trying to come up with a better method than what was used, but being the only person awake in a screening was a first

Get Smart - Parts of it are really funny but I gave up because it feels like it has four writers and certain scenes have the set-design skills of a Schumacher Batman.

From Paris With Love - Some GREAT action scenes but it also stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers and has an awful ending.

A Million Ways to Die in the West.

I thin I probably have to agree with what I remember of the Huffington Post review of this film - some good actors but total wasted in order to fit in more fart gags.
If you enjoyed Ted this is more of the same but not as good. Did raise the odd laugh but they were few and far between.
Plus this is another film recently that's shown stuff in the trailer that isn't actually in the theatrical release

In other news, the EE advert at the start was very well done.
