I downloaded it today on my xbox. It's a huge download at 13GB.
But... It's an epic game. Mix of fps and rpg. The missions are awesome too. There's a mix of the standard missions but then there are matchmaking missions where you're teamed up with other people on the same mission to either face ai or an enemy team.
It also has "respawn restriction" on some sections of missions so if you die you have to go back to the start of that section.
Played a mission with 2 other people where we had to enter an alien stronghold and bring it down. It was epic! The respawn restriction there counts for all three. So if one dies the others can revive him but if all three die then you start again.
Anyway, it's free.
Get it.

I was in the alpha and 'early in' on the beta. I ruddy love it. It's a good bordering on great FPS with only the best bits of an MMORPG stirred in. The story and PVP modes are better than decent and strikes are fun if a bit grindey, but it shines in 'explore' mode. You basically wander around these massive environments - bigger than WoW zones with more detail of stuff in them - looking for trouble. Missions are marked by green strobing 'probes' and/or there are 'events' which are just random things that happen occasionally you can get involved in if you want. There are other players in the map but you're under no obligation to help them (however also nothing's stopping you) and as there's no PVP allowed and targets respawn quite frequently there's no real way idiots can 'grief' you.
It's just.... fun. Massive, massive fun. Especially if you can get a regular group together. I genuinely think explore mode is a gameplay leap that leaves you thinking 'why the hell didn't someone do this before?' I don't see how any FPS in the future will be able to not have it.

This does look completely and utterly my kind of thing. Unfortunately by the time I'd be in a position to play it, we'll be on a satellite connection with close to a 1000ms ping, which is completely useless for gaming on.

my level 8 female warlock. I downloaded the free iPhone app that connects to any gaming network. The game is still awesome. I read a thing the other day (possibly here lol) that said if fps games of the future don't include the rpg stuff that destiny had they will just fail. This game is just perfect. It's probably the best fps game I've ever played. Combined with one of the best RPGs I've played too.

I'm considering getting hold of a copy. I'm still not convinced that £50+ for a game is worth it, so I'll be looking for keen pricing.

It does seem steep but then I paid £30 for WoW and then £8.99 a month for it. Lol

It's the going rate unfortunately. Better value IMO than yet another CoD or FIFA that's barely different to the last one. Me :-

I'll never pay £50 for a game ever again, that ship's sailed.

Your privilege of course. You can get Destiny for the PS3/360 as well, probably cheaper. Apparently exactly the same game just (obviously) less shiny.

Well I'm sold. Considering I spent hundreds on wow I'm more than willing to pay £50 for destiny.
Given that it's one of the best fps games I've played and also seems to be an epic rpg also and that the online matchmaking and buddying up is fixed from the likes of wow.
It covers so many aspects of gaming improving each one at the same time.
