I was doing HIIT back at university when I heard about it. Maybe 10 years ago? I've always wondered whether it reflects our prehistory and hence why it's so beneficial. People would all-out run from predators before having periods of rest.

You have to really go for it though. Really hard - break into a sweat. Wheeze, gasp, etc.. This isn’s some half-arse mini jog they’re talking about, though I guess it’s how urgent your trip to the bar is.
