It was thoroughly engrossing, I agree, and I really enjoyed it but, other than the initial collision, the film seemed to be a catalogue of his incompetence. I'd happily watch it again though.

How to Train Your Dragon 2.
Very entertaining and I haven't seen all of the first one yet.
I was a bit annoyed however that the cinema (Showcase) had obviously staggered the 2D showings to avoid it being available to see at the weekend in conjunction with their Insider/discount card. Looks like they decided this a good idea from now on as well.

Yeah we get those underhand deals too in our chains - I imagine it actually costs them more money!

The Way, Way BackThoroughly enjoyed it. Sam Rockwell is very funny in it and the actor who played the main character was really good too even though he spent most of the film looking bored. He plays a sullen teen so that's allowed. Backed up with Toni Collette, Steve Carell, Amanda Peet and Maya Rudolph. Had a brig grin on my face thorought the film and cried and laughed at the end. No sex, violence or CGI (looks at pcernie) for those that want to know. Good innocent fun, a strong 8/10.

Listen, I haven't been recommending Robot and Frank to people only to be confronted by your misconceptions! I dont care what a film is so long as it isnt boring! That applies equally to sex, violence and CGI. Or Bayhem as it's known.

See the ranting thread where I've been having problems with this tablet (can't add smilies for one).

Watched Need for Speed. The car chases/races had a very real feel to them, no silly CGI, eleventy-billion gear changes, camera blur, etc, which I really liked. Other than that it's utter garbage. That follows on from Argo a couple of nights ago which I did actually enjoy. It was slow in places but never felt like it was dragging so I guess the pace was just right. Not sure what's next. I might try some art house bollocks to satisfy Caz

R.I.P.D. - Replace Men in Black's aliens with the dead and you've got this; it only gets by because of it's cast. It's watchable, but only if you expect absolutely nothing from it. There was a good idea in here somewhere (I've never read the comic).
To sum up, I came away from it the way I do with every Will Smith sci-fi comedy; that could have been so much more with just a little more work.

Guardians of the Galaxy - Too many characters, none of them especially interesting. Which of course means the action scenes have little impact despite looking a million dollars. Probably literally. Oh, and can we please inject some personality into our baddies in future?
It's just an introduction to a bunch of characters Marvel hopes to use later. They probably don't give a crap that tonally it's all over the place from scene to scene. There's the odd funny line - that's about the best I can say for this film.

Yeah, it's really pretty bad. A few laugh out loud moments, but only because it's so bad.
