Exactly, it is a local connection that was never supposed to be secure. It is a serial, unencrypted interface. It isn't as bad as FireWire or Thunderbolt (they add in DMA into the mix), but it was never supposed to be secure.

BadUSB isn't anything special, this has been known since it was launched. There have always been keyloggers and data extractors in USB format. Next they'll claim the Pope is actually Catholic.
