It happens all the time at my company, two of the couples are now married very happily and there are at least another half dozen or so that are on the go at the moment. Having said that, they are all in different areas of the company so they don't work closely together.

Of you can't meet people at work, where are you supposed to meet people?
Go for it.

Happened at our place and, maybe because it doesn't happen that often there, the attention made the shyer half of the couple very uncomfortable and I think this contributed to the relationship being quite short lived, which I thought was sad. I think you both have to be confident enough to stand the inevitable office gossip that'll happen once it becomes public knowledge.

What are they going to gossip about, that you're shagging each other? Scandalous! Life's too short to give a [LIFTED].

I totally agree, but I've seen blokes getting seriously bitchy never mind women trying to elevate their social standing amongst each other. Some people can't take it or won't risk the potential fallout amongst colleagues and/or friends. Office life sucks...

You may well think that and tbh I could probably live with it personally, but the guy in question did have a problem with it and there's nothing 'wrong' with that. Everyone has their own standards of what they consider 'public' and 'private' and we like to be able to control which is which in our own lives. It does bear saying though that if you start a relationship at work, it's pretty much going to end up 'public' whether you like it or not and you have to be able to deal with that.

I would say : don't laugh at it unless/until you've been there. And what you consider 'normal' isn't necessarily that just because it's the way you see things.

My situation at work - the new couple had to inform HR that they were dating, but myself and maybe 3 other people knew. It's become more popular knowledge, of course, but they were reasonably successful at keeping it quiet.
He's actually left the work place now in a round of voluntary redundancies. But they both felt awkward about people knowing their business; and I can understand that.
Edited to add - they've been seeing each other for a couple of months, and it's not even on Facebook! :o ;)

Don't screw the crew, as I believe the saying is.

I've worked on several boats, and the overiding directive is: What goes on the boat stays on the boat.
