Interesting read, but really only confirms everything I thought anyway:

I think the main issue of GenY is a lack of hope. Despite hard work, people just cannot improve their situation.

The modern world is overwhelming. Even if you do feel like you're going nowhere, just coasting and trying to figure it out in the meantime often isn't an option. It's everything all at once at the moment - job security in a job you likely loathe, money, relationships, maybe even just with your friends. All at a time when the sci-fi of our youth can be bought in a store, when tech and science outstrips our own natural capabilities on a daily basis. Global warming? Terrorism 'on our doorstep'? It all came on top in the blink of an eye, seemingly. What are you supposed to devote your thoughts and energy to? Jesus, what the hell should I watch from my Netflix list?

Oh, and social media's just weird in this context. Let's be honest here, the net has as much potential and pitfalls as anything in technology, yet right now it seems to be little more than a viewfinder. This thing that changed the entire world and our place in it. A giant goldfish bowl just when paranoia is feeding on itself, from power-hungry [LIFTED] to looking at selfies and what are often just personas. If people are increasingly confused, it's absolutely no wonder.
