I can't help thinking you'd really need to be into your lossless music to break your current habit.

I've got a standalone player for a multitude of reasons...

Easily swappable SD card and a lot of inbuilt memory anyway.

Battery lasts ages even at full volume.

It takes any set of headphones without Android having a nervous breakdown.

It actually plays music without Android having a nervous breakdown.

My phone does none of that.

They changed the link to another, similar story so I updated the OP

They're getting at most people now using their phones for music. I certainly haven't seen an actual iPod or whatever in years. That's why I mentioned the lossless music; most people wouldn't give a stuff or know any different I suspect.

I don't do music on my phone, despite it having ample capacity.

My other half has a media player, for when she goes Nordic walking, both daughters have media players, as well as smartphones. They tend to use the media players a lot, mainly when they ride their bikes or they go shopping etc. because they don't take their phones with them.

I don't do music on my phone either, I don't do music on a media player either.

I do use my phone for Audible books and podcasts.

Thing is, if you're sticking high resolution FLAC files on it, 64GB isn't really that much. I'd need to be looking at something like 200GB to make it a vaguely sane purchase for me (current FLAC collection is around 150GB mark). I certainly don't want to be having to swap memory cards in and out whilst on the move.

My iPad is my main portable music device now and I have a big chunk of music on iPhone too.

I do have an old iPod hooked up to the kitchen stereo but now I have the portable Bose bluetooth speaker the stereo is more or less redundant.

I don't see any need to buy another device just for music.

Yes, I would. I have music on my phone and it sounds great through headphones, but the notifications keep interrupting my listening, so yes, I would buy a device with lots of memory and no iTunes dependency.

Possibly yes for travelling. When flash is cheap enough to hold 1tb of music I'd happily buy another player to have all my music and only use my phone for emergencies. At home I'll just stream music to each room

I was obviously "tired and emotional" when I wrote that, as I obviously meant storage space, not memory.

Doesn't it interrupt the music with notification noises when you get texts or Facebook updates etc?

I've turned off all notification noises, apart from SMS and telephone calls on my phone. I get about a dozen SMS a month and 2 calls a month, so it doesn't really interrupt me.

I get lots of texts, as well as Twitter and bookface updates so it does get annoying. Thinking about it, I should just turn off the notifications but that would be too easy ;)
