Oh brother. Erm, I mean oh sister!
A toy targeted at a specific demographic can't be advertised as such, because it appeals to people outside the demographic as well?
Chio have just brought out 2 new ranges of crisps, Girls' Night and Lads' Night... The first is piquant paprika flavoured, the latter is spicy BBQ. To be honest, I prefer the Girls' Night crisps, but I'm not going to bother about the name or advertising.

As such a prize-winner yourself, I'm sure she can have nothing but good things to say about you!

You're an adult, all damage is already done Seriously, you see no issue with telling girls that they should play with barbies and leave the science kits, lego and video games to boys?

Yes, if the sign actually mattered at all. There's nothing stopping the parents buying whatever toy they want to for whatever gender of child they have. Tesco can't tell you how to raise your children.
If we were actually stopping anyone from doing anything, yes, that would be bad. But this? Get a grip.

it's the lasting effect that more worrying. Tell people since they can remember than things are "for boys" like sciences and then no wonder few women end up in engineering or hard sciences curriculums

If they used that sign in the TV section, that woman might not have been brained by a telly in last night's black Friday scrum.

The lasting effect? Of a sign someone might see once or twice over a period of years? OK.

The general concept that construction, science and sport toys are for boys is everywhere these days, it's a lot worse than is the 70s/80s, mostly driven by brands realising they can force people to buy toys for each child when having kids of different genders. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Well there you go. A brand can't 'force' you to do anything.

No, I don't see that as saying girls can't play with them. Too me that is just a suggestion, that it would make a good present for a boy, not that girls can't use it.
The sign doesn't say girls are barred from buying the toys. It is a suggestion what you can do with it, it isn't an exclusion. It doesn't say this is a toy only for boys, it doesn't say that it is illegal for girls to buy or play w with it.
