Outlook/Exchange used to support that for internal mail. But once it is out, it is out.

If you send gmail to gmail, then they can do it, until the recipient has read the email.

The Exchange recovation system is more limited than MS would have you believe actually. But yes, unless you're using some of the more serious corporate email systems that apply DRM to emails, once the email leaves the service the sender 'lives on' you've got no chance of (legally) getting it back.

Well we didn't have the human rights act when the stories were originally written. I'd say it's likely Paddington would have not have fared much better.
