'If anyone's gonna thrive on tits, it'll be me!' shouted Nigel.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. It's all about nipples. Particularly women's nipples.
Women's breasts have been sexualised in the western world. Go to Africa and see tribes where they all cover their genitals but are naked from the waist up, be it men or women.
I used to think the entire issue of breastfeeding was because of exposing boob to the world. But more and more mags showed less and less on the front cover. A woman can walk around in bikinis that are tiny. So tiny that you can see everything except nipple. And because she's wearing a bikini, she's covered up. Smiley faces or stars equally cover nipples on porn mags and such where women are portrayed topless. You can see the top of the breasts, the sides and the bottom. But you can't see the nipples. Not on the front cover at least.
If you desexualised the breast, no one would care about breastfeeding. No one would bat an eye lid.

Nope, nothing to do with tits - it's all about that media whore deciding "I haven't been centre stage for a few weeks - time to say something dickish". If it wasn't tits, it would have been something else. He can't raise his profile legitimately, so he says something calculated piss people off.

Perhaps but I would argue that 'Women' as a group, whether they are breast feeding or not, is a particularly stupid group for a politician (any politician) to annoy in the run up to a general election. Oh, yeah, if it was just about the nipple then there's a strong argument to say it would have been covered. There was presumably a baby obscuring anyones view after all.

It's not particularly clever to consider 'women' to be a homogeneous group that all have the same opinion either. Quite a lot of UKIPs support is among the more aged end of the population and there are many pensioners and the like who grew up in times when breastfeeding in public would have been generally frowned upon. Yes, he's upset a lot of people (both male and female) but he seems an astute enough politician to know what the people likely to vote for him want to hear. He is undoubtedly a dick but sadly so are lots of other people and we all tend to vote for people who are like ourselves. There's a part of the voting public who agree with what he's said and consider the backlash against him to be 'political correctness gone mad'. They don't see him as a dick, they see him as someone brave enough to say in public what they've been thinking for years. That's why they vote for him (his party actually, but the two are pretty synonymous). The EU is simply the most obvious one of those touchstones. Basically, don't fall into the trap of thinking 'what I believe is what everyone believes' even if what you believes patently correct. Jon
