Ordering off eBay without properly reading the 'we're selling fakes' description - the seller had better give me a refund or I'll have them investigated by everyone I can think of
Hahaha good luck with that.
If it was stated in the description that it wasn't a 100% genuine article, then you'll have a hard time getting a refund unless they are a particularly generous and decent seller.

Mark

Oh, I've had a guy investigated by FACT for trying to rip people off. There's always a way. The fact they've used photos of the genuine article won't help them just when I contact eBay, if need be. I've already sent an email asking for a refund. Either way, they're not allowed to blatantly copy another product and sell it as the real deal, no matter what the description.

One refund sorted, the key might have been saying I ordered the wrong item implying I was gonna buy another :|

I've no idea where my iphone is. I recall it being on the bed before I left and I know I was going to pick it up. But can't remember if I did.

If I picked it up, I've dropped it between house and car in which case it's gone forever.
If I left it at home, it'll be on the bed.

iCloud can't find either iphone or ipad despite them both having wifi on. I guess they're both in sleep mode.

It should find them whether asleep ot not afaik or that renders FindMyPhone pretty useless. Worked for me when I forgot where I put my iPad recently.

Normally, I've found that unless I'm using the iphone/ipad, the wifi seems to disconnect. So when I unlock the device and immediately go onto safari browser, it won't load and tell me it's lost a connection. A second later, the wifi symbol comes on and everything's fine.

Yes but that shouldn't mean FindMyPhone won't work

IIRC it remembers the 'last reported location'. So it would be saying the iThing was at wherever it was when it went to sleep and logged off the network. If you go to the FindMyiThing web site and click one of the options like play the alarm tone or whatever, the Apple server sends a notification event to the iDevice (which it can receive while it's asleep because they make periodic 'not quite wake up but log on to the net and check' cycles) and then it will report it's location back. So the reported location is 'last reported location unless you ask, in which case I'll tell you exactly where I am'.

Regarding being disconnected from the network, If you were to nick a disconnected iDevice you could get away with it temporarily. But IIRC since iOS 8 even wiping the device & reinstalling the firmware doesn't remove it's registration on the FindMyiThing web site, so even if the thief were to wipe and sell it on, as long as you've clicked the 'my iThing has been nicked, lock it and tell me where it is' button on the web site in the meantime, the first time it connects to an active network, it'll lock itself down and be effectively useless.

Since word of this has got round your light-fingered community, iThings have apparently been pinched somewhat less...

Actually, I just logged onto the FindMyiThings web site and it 'pinged' all my devices, they all have locations updated within 30 seconds. They all have available internet connections but two of them are definitely asleep as I'm looking at their blank screens.

Jon

The neighbours should turn up for the 'If any person present knows of any lawful impediment to this marriage...' bit.

John, consider this your final warning! That kind of language is unacceptable, and if this happens again we may have to consider an enforced break from the forum. Consider yourself told!
