I'm kind of growing to like this guy. Putting the idea of whether we should have a pope aside, so far he's been doing an awful lot of things right since he got the job. You're not going to turn something as big a religion round overnight but he does seem to have a few decent ideas in his head.

Don't breed like rabbits yet they aren't allowed contraception.

As many a priest will testify, you can't put a bun in the choirboy's oven.

No need for anyone to breed like rabbits. Yet in many parts of teh world they still do. I just find it daft that the benifits system here almost encourages it.

A lot of Catholics interpret rules rather loosely, I mean , I haven't meant anyone for years who doesn't eat meat on Fridays and other nonsense

Yeah I married a catholic (against my better judgement) and she sometimes makes a token effort to be picky about what she eats in lent, but it doesn't last long.

Abstinence, dear boy, abstinence. There are also other things that can be done to help avoid pregnancy, although most aren't very reliable. We did a tour around Artland a couple of years ago, the guide told as that the women in the gable houses took a specific poison if they thought they might become pregnant in order to provoke a miscarriage. The world is a weird, and often dreadful, place. In Austria, friends of mine couldn't marry unless they told the priest that the reason for the marriage was to produce children. Love and wanting to be a couple isn't enough for a Catholic in Austria. On the other hand, I do know some catholics that do use contraceptives.

I think Catholicism varies massively across countries and generations too. We were taught about contraceptives in my Catholic school and I only knew one family with 9 kids and they integrists so who refused the second Vatican council reform of 1962. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Vatican_CouncilSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Its' the same as any religion, some followers are more strict/devout than others. I know Muslims who drink alcohol. I know Hindus who eat meat. I know catholics who use contraception. It's possible to live by the 'spirit' of a religion without actually sticking to every single one of the dictats the mad old blokes in hats say you have to.
