Chris Evans's Ferrari California? That was about five years ago wasn't it?

We're both off time-wise - the story is actually from 2012! It's one of those ones that comes up in the Beeb's side list for no apparent reason at all I assumed it was part of the recent series since I didn't actually watch it

Evans reaction the following day on the radio was one of surprise. He'd sold the car by the time it was broadcast. That segment had been shot almost a year before transmission.

I was considering it because I do like the song. Apparently no-one else has though, since it's not even in the top 200 on iTunes and you have to sell like two copies to get in that these days..

I already have it. If I didn't I would've bought it. And yes that was the most interesting bit of Top Gear. I kept getting the feeling of deja vu.

It was Top Gear, there's only so many ways three middle aged blokes can d!ck about in flash cars without it seeming a bit samey. Didn't see the Patagonia special. Was there any reason they were all wearing what appeared to be Chillean flag pins?

On Twitter after the Patagonia special, they were saying how much nicer Chile was than Argentina, friendlier, more helpful, etc. etc. They were also extolling the virtues of wine from Chile.

They upset (intentionally or otherwise, opinions vary) a load of people in Argentina and pretty much had to make a run for it. This is not an exaggeration, there was a significant probability if they'd stayed it would have got very, very bad indeed. The place they made a run to was across the border into Chile. Basically the Argentinians were horrible to them and the Chileans were very nice to them.

It seemed that until they got to their destination, they were doing pretty well in the parts of Argentina they travelled through. It was the destination, where they were supposed to have built a football stadium for a game of car football, where the trouble was. There is a lot of anti-English sentiment there because of the Falklands, and it seemed that dodgy numberplate or not, there would have been problems for them. Their stated goal in the programme was to be diplomatic and build bridges. From what they showed on the programme, they had little chance to make their case.

Speaking of building bridges.
Did anyone else think that the whole point of that statement was to remind people of the literal bridge that they literally built (and which also caused racial offence) in the other special?
When I heard them say they were there to build bridges what I heard was "We're here to offend people and generally cause trouble".

No. You're massively overthinking it.

Am I though?
Even Hammond made a comment something like ... "Yes, we're very good at building bridges... we've done that before... That went well... Sort of."
