What did the Lockerbie bomber get? About a month per victim by the time they let him out?

Society has changed. We have moved on and what was considered "acceptable " or at least tolerated is not now. Certainly the kiddie stuff was wrong then as now, but there will be a bunch of other 70's celebs who behaved similarly and will be worried. Many top of the pops presenters I recall having straying hands on screen, and they would have had little idea of the age of the girls around them. And probably didnt ask.
Doesn't make it right, but if found guilty are sentenced by the standards of the time, anything else would be unfair. By that standard Harriss's sentence is at the top of the scale.

On the review http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-28174592and then there's I can see both sides of that in the legal sense, but frankly, do we believe scumbags are committing sex crimes whilst weighing up how long they'll serve if caught? 'She's under 13, I'll play it safer with her sister...' This is why I'd like to see an overall review of sentencing at every level and modern, set minimum tariffs at the end of it with relevant leeway for each individual case. We have more data than ever now, we should use it efficiently. This thing of 'The offender got what?' happens far too often, especially in sex abuse cases.

I'm just thinking that if any of the Oz complainants make it to court over there, he'll basically die in court or jail no matter what.

Also I think questions have to be asked as to how Rolf has avoided being charged with possession of child pornography. So how has that been arranged? Not only a light sentence but charges which would see any normal person in a lot of trouble set aside! Perhaps Rolf could account for it as 'research' like Pete Townshend did.

It went as far as asking the website owners for details including the ages of those in the videos, certificates to that effect etc. It seemed there was enough doubt for the prosecution to back down, and I spose from their POV (certainly not mine) they'd got him sent down anyway.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-31156427What I hate about these cases is the judiciary will often tack on derisory sentences as if 'newer' victims somehow matter less.

How’s a long sentence going to help when you’ve got someone in his 80s who will very likely not live for the full term?

Makes no difference IMO, victims need and should be treated equally, fcuk Rolf and the like.
