According to The Guardian, The News Of The World appears to have been hacking the mobile phones of politicians and celebs on a large scale.

Quote:
The Metropolitan police is to examine allegations that journalists from the News of the World and other newspapers repeatedly used criminal methods to get stories through mobile phone hacking.

The move came after the Guardian revealed Rupert Murdoch's News Group Newspapers had paid out more than £1m to settle legal cases that threatened to reveal evidence of the journalists' activities.

i don't believe it , not the news of the world, they uphold such high standards of journalism
and Murdoch himself is held in the highest regard 'like what the Sun says' every day …

If this turns out to be true I hope people go to prison and News International gets a record fine. I have now stopped buying The Times.

Oh please, nobody takes that [LIFTED] newspaper seriously anyway. So it doesn't matter if now and then they write something that is actually true...

It has the highest circulation of any newspaper in the United Kingdom, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people took what was printed as gospel. At any rate this remains a rather serious breach of the criminal law and people should be prosecuted as such.

That is exactly why it shouldn't be taken seriously. Majority of people are retards and it does not matter what they think. Retards only believe what they want to believe and sensible newspapers cannot change the way they think. And mostly they think "other people are the cause of my life being so miserable". May it be government, banks, companies, business people, immigrants, terrorists, french, jews etc... They need somebody to blame for everything bad that happened to them and they find that somebody in papers like The Sun and The news of the world. They read it so they can be angry at somebody...

That's democracy for you, or "Mob Rules" as I like to call it.

An excellent album, but a questionable social policy.

but we don't have democracy. We have a system whereby the majority is usually ignored for vast amounts of time. The minority decide on who governs. Then the "elected" representatives just ignore the electorate until the next election.
Perversely "starship Troopers" had a interesting idea on politics

Are you talking about the idea that citizenship was earned via serving in the marines etc. and that you couldn't vote until you'd earned it?

I have better idea. Let's have IQ test that will decide whether person can vote or not. Or maybe general knowledge test. But of course person would have to pay income tax of a certain level to be eligible to vote. If somebody does not contribute any money he shouldn't be allowed to decide how the money of others is spent...

While we're at it let's put voting back in the hands of land owners. If you restrict voting rights, you're only going to revert back to a situation whereby an elite decide the laws of the land.

The business of government goes way beyond spending public money, they also make laws, and laws effect every person in the United Kingdom, as such, all people (of the age of legal majority) must be entitled to vote.

Voting tests were highly discriminatory in the States, and no doubt would be here. Only allowing people who may tax to vote is fundamentally wrong, especially where people are unemployed through reasons that are not their fault. And as I said, laws made by Parliament affect everyone, thus everyone should have a say. Universal Suffrage is the only way to go.

How stage-managed is that McPherson statement?

And has the Sunday Times gone rogue as part of Murdock's empire, or is this all just some sort of clever smokescreen? :?
