I have a samsung american style fridge / freezer and it is rubbish.
It's very noisy

Will have to have a think. Currently the kitchen is a very small room, and there's a utility room that's been built as an extension. I would love to knock the whole thing into one large kitchen space. Noise would be an issue and it's something I need to consider wrt appliances as well.

I've had a read online and it seems if they can't get it in through the door, you have to have the windows out! Not doing any of that. Although it would be nice, I think a couple of 2/3 seaters will be fine.

Yep. Even has what I call a 'piss head flap' so you can get wine in and out of the fridge without opening the main door. Don't think it can be used for beer (never have any anyway) so the future Mrs Wolf will like it :D I went for plumbed option so I have a constant supply of cold water and ice.

Neither of us really drink much. I go through months of being completely teetotal. Fiancee likes occasional glass of wine but even that's rare these days. Cold water and ice is nice in summer, not so much in winter.

If it's just two of you, how much food do you actually need to store in a fridge?
The superwide US fridges will cost more, cost more to run, give you less cupboard space and 'normal' sized fridges also offer things like Caz's booze flap (steady) and plumbed cold water. Our LG fridge does. It's very quiet and has an alarm if you've left the door ajar.

I think the concern I had with some of those features is that in a smaller fridge, it takes up more space inside.

I've heard from a friend that Tempurpedic mattresses are really comfy as long as you are a fairly inactive sleeper, my friend had to get rid of it because he had disturbed sleep, cricked his neck and started having hip problems after some time because he wasn't easily able to shift position in his sleep. I don't know about sex but I'll ask him....

This is the problem. I don't want to spend £1000+ on a mattress and then find it's rubbish. I can sleep in most places but I need to be in some way comfortable. Given that I'll be spending 7hrs a night, it needs to be suitable. I found the memory foam ones to be a bit crap but the orthopaedic ones (with memory foam) were a bit better. I roll around and move constantly. Always tossing and turning.

No. The manager was there watching us.

Got the carpets steam cleaned. Will help reduce some of the moggie hairs. Also found the plug for the small built in fridge. Hopefully getting the cleaner and gardener in next week. Meanwhile, need to do more appliance research and furniture shopping.

EDIT: Also got my first council tax bill (impressed they knew since I hadn't told them!) and my first mortgage payment (which is 1.5x normal!).

I don't know if this is because it's a monthly payment rather than an annual payment.

How does anyone pick a mattress that's comfortable? 5-10 minutes lying on one in the shop is hardly going to give you much idea of what it's going to be like sleeping on it every night.

I picked mine based on construction (went full foam) and firmness (medium or medium-hard IIRC).

Corner sofas come in parts. I know because I have one.

When I bought my sofa, they gave me the option to make it demountable or not. It's not always the case.

In my experience a decent furniture shop will check access to your property as you order so they know whether they can get the furniture in or not.

They did. And warned me that if I said I did not need it demountable and they couldn't get it into the door it was my problem.
Ikea however wouldn't do that ;)

So spent the weekend shopping for stuff. Found the perfect sofa set (ex demo, half price, immediate delivery) and was 3-seater and 4-seater. Won't fit. Well actually it will but the door won't fully open. :( Every sofa we saw after that one was rubbish in comparison. Tempted to get the 3-seater and then order in another 3-seater.

Appliances. I've never seen so many brands and varieties of washing machines, tumble dryers and refridgerators. American-style will happily fit, even with the doors open. Never knew Samsung had gone into home appliance territory. I can't afford Miele. Not now. Any suggestions on brands?

If it's an exterior door it might be more tricky. Might actually be easier to take out a window if they're UPVC and get it in through there.

That is one thing I like about German interior doors, the hinges are two pieces, the lower part it screwed into the frame and the upper part is screwed into the door itself. That means you can just life the door out of the frame.

Our loft trap door comes down and collides with the door to the stairs. If is a matter of 5 seconds to lift the stair's door off the hinge and lay it to one side then open the loft. Putting it back on is a little more fiddly, but still only takes seconds.

We could remove the door but you'd still have part of the sofa blocking (or protruding) the doorway by a few cms.
