Labour would use Ofsted inspections to put a greater emphasis on art in schools in England, says the party's leader Ed Miliband.

A future Labour government would widen access to the arts, says Mr Miliband.

Well, I’m all for this - there’s not enough of it going on. Certainly in primary schools, it’s maths, english and science that are pushed to the detriment of humanities and the arts. Art these days doesn’t have any real time allocated to it - it has to be squeezed in along with other subjects, or pushed into after school clubs.

But using Ofsted to force this? Really? Surely you just ease off the pressure for other subjects, junk the idiotic league tables and tweak the national curriculum. Ofsted will adapt to these guidelines.

Again with the word "promise". I really think someone should tell them what it means.
