Plans to generate electricity from the world's first series of tidal lagoons have been unveiled in the UK.
The six lagoons - four in Wales and one each in Somerset and Cumbria - will capture incoming and outgoing tides behind giant sea walls, and use the weight of the water to power turbines.

this is a much better way to spend money to generate electricity then them god awful wind towers ...

It's certainly an interesting idea and plan.

I do find it interesting that the cost per MWh (~£90) for follow-up sites is pretty much bang on the same as people went mad about when it was agreed for new nuclear. Mind you, the intended lifetime is considerably longer than any conventional power station I can think of.

It's awesome on many levels. And as for Swansea bay.. well, I lived there for three years. One time, I went in the waves wearing a pair of part-leather trainers and even though I dried & cleaned them properly afterwards the leather turned green and basically crumbled within a couple of weeks. I stayed out of the water after that.. While I was there Uni of Wales moved the marine biology department away from Swansea up further North because when the students went diving they couldn't see a damn thing.

I dunno if it's cleaner now (I assume it is, stricter regulations and all that ) and the Gower has some amazing surfing but the bay? Not really. Lovely beach opposite the Uni but not somewhere for swimming.
