They've both got lucrative non-TG careers and if Clarkson did sod off to Sky or ITV, they'd almost certainly get offered nice contracts by the new broadcaster as well. Aside from the fact they're all millionaires anyway so it's not as if they need to work if they don't want to.

The only people losing out here are the Beeb. To the tune of many millions of pounds.

I agree, but TG is a cushy number by anyone's standards. And a commercial broadcaster... Well, they'll have commercials that won't sit well in between dodgy comments and behaviour from a team the media will be looking to sink from the start.

Can't believe the idiots have effectively scrapped three episodes.

They haven't scrapped them... yet - they've been shelved. If he is reinstated, they'll film the studio link sequences a few days in advance as usual and broadcast on the Sunday.

They may be forced to temporarily reinstate him to complete this season anyway - depending on the size of the claims from affiliated broadcasters.

I suspect that he'll be back to finish the season, fulfil his contractual obligations, and then it'll be 'Goodbye'.
The BBC won't take a 10 figure bath on this, behaving like a petulant child isn't worth the fines they'll be hit with for not fulfilling their contracts overseas.
However, his contract is nearly due for renewal, and I'd be surprised if they go ahead with it.

Also, I'm incredibly bored and saddened at the amount of press this has. Nobody should be subject to the way he behaved, but because it's the meeja, it's apparently 'ok'.
It's not. If he'd hit me, I'd be doing him for assault.

There's also the fact that he didn't actually hit anyone.

You know, that's relevant too.

Regardless of whether he hit someone or not, it appears that an online petition calling for his reinstatement shows that there are several hundred thousand people who think that it would be OK if he had, and that he should carry on regardless.

There are certainly a lot of (selfish?) people who only care for their own enjoyment/entertainment and don't give a stuff about anything that's unrelated or peripheral to that. So what Clarkson gets up to otherwise is irrelevant as long as they still get to see Top Gear.

I'm not sure signing the petition is making a statement about workplace bullying per se.

Regardless of whether he hit someone or not, it appears that a media witchhunt calling for his sacking shows that there are several hundred people who think that it would be OK if he hadn't, but that he should be fired regardless.

The show needs a reboot anyway.

+1

I preferred 5th Gear - at least they reviewed semi-normal cars that people might actually buy instead of just arsing around.
