Didn't he have Geography in primary school? 1. Why does it happen? It is magic2. How did we know it will happen? (Ok, that's a good line of enquiry) We have thrown bones and seen how they landed3. Will it last all day? Only until you repent your sins4. How will I know it's happening? As Jon says, seriously

Solid cloud cover, as far as the eye can see, in every direction.

Barely perceptible darkening here.

Cloud coverage here, so didn’t see it. Someone in Braintree on Twitter said she saw something, but it’s been really poor. It just got dark and birds roosted in the trees outside the house. Anyway, the Clangers explain what was going on: http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/watch/sta ... ar-eclipse

Got a couple of decent photos despite heavy cloud cover. It didn't really go that dark, despite 90% convergence.

Despite the cloud cover got a few snaps on my phone - 85% totality around here or so we have been told.

Where I am in Nottingham it just got a little bit darker. Since I don't have any windows facing where the sun is at that time in the morning I thought I would wait until it looked like something more was happening before venturing outside for a proper look, and then it started getting brighter again. TBH if I hadn't know that there was going to be an eclipse I doubt whether I would have noticed any real difference at all.
