39 in a 30. Sounds worse than it was, camera van at the bottom of a long hill. Still, no excuse.

Don't know what to do about the lens. After the speeding fine I don't imagine the wife is going to be happy about me replacing it.

Depends on your circumstances. I'd either hire a lens if pressed for time and money so at least have something to use. In meantime if lens is likely to be repairable and worthwhile, get an estimate. Otherwise start looking for a replacement or even an upgrade.

Woman in Costa to man sitting on table next to her, indicating folded white stick: Is that a probe?

Man : No. It's my white stick. I'm partially sighted
(Actually, if you looked at his face you could tell that there was something wrong, but I digress)

Woman: Oh, I thought it was a probe for testing for avalanches. I was wondering why you'd have on here.

Vaguely uncomfortable laughter.

This really happened. I am staggered that someone who appeared to be in her late 50s or early 60s has gone through life without being able to recognise a white stick.

Work seem intent to have me work right up until the last minute of me working for them and not have any knowledge transfer to other members of staff on projects I have worked on.

I guess they think I'll be reachable when I'm on holiday

Talisker have released a few mixed bottlings recently, Storm and Skye. I bought both. If you like Talisker, you'll like Skye, don't bother with Storm it's quite harsh, disappointing.

Forwarding to Gmail from another email address - why the fcuk does it only forward some of the messages instead of all of them? It's not like it's sending them to spam either. And which does it miss? The time sensitive ones

My Tail of Win has turned into a Tail of Fail

THE DAY AFTER agreeing to the pan for Mum's 70th Birthday, my sister called to tell me that they're actually not going to come. They've decided they can't afford it after all. Turns out Sis agreed before talking to Bro, who then sat down with her, went through their finances and they decided they couldn't find the money.

So, now I have to phone the holidays place Monday and see if I can switch my deposit to a smaller cabin, just for 4 of us for that weekend, although Sis and Bro have decided that they can probably come and visit each day to be involved with the weekend, without actually paying for any of it!

The real killer is that I know how disappointed my Mum is going to be. If I could figure out a way to still pay for all of it and have them come and stay then I would, rather than disappoint my Mum, but Red and I aren't made of money either and we've got our joint 40th garden party to sort out and pay for as well :(

Family has the power to frustrate me far more than anything else in life!!

Families are like that. You should see all the [LIFTED] my sister-in-law has caused over the years. She could have a whole series of Jeremy Kyle to herself

As the sibling who's always earned far less than his other two, spare a thought for how crap she might be feeling.
Nothing worse than simply be unable to attend a family commitment because you can't afford it.

That's the thing though. My sister doesn't work, my Brother-i-l is the only earner and he currently earns about £30k more than Red and I put together!
The reason they can't afford it is because in the middle of last year they bought a house, they over-stretched themselves, and they 'can't afford' to do the family thing with my Mum because they are over-paying on their mortgage by £500 per month to pay it off sooner. In my world, they would skip the over-payment for one month and be more than able to pay for the family thing, my sister actually said "that money could be spent on our new decking" which to my mind is a complete skew of priorities.

But then, this is also my sister who didn't even buy Mum a pot plant or flowers for Mothers Day, she showed up, ate the picnic I provided and gave Mum a card with the actual words "I couldn't afford a present, because we have just bought a house and have no spare money" having just forked out to furnish a flat in Bristol that my Brother-i-l uses when he's away from home during the week!

OTOH Red and I are doing without a planned holiday this year so that we can afford to spend the time with Mum on her birthday. My sister is still planning to spend 2 weeks of the summer holidays with my Bro and their kids going to Tunisia!

Ahhh I totally get your frustration now!
Yes, a month without the extra £500 on the mortgage wouldn't hurt surely?

I did ask her that, but she said that they were trying to get their mortgage paid off in 10 years and they wouldn't make it if they didn't pay the extra.
At that point I realised nothing I said would make any difference so I gave up.

I've lost 3 members of my family in the last year and a half and it makes you realise that your family aren't going to be around forever. You have your priorities spot on, your sister will probably look back in years to come and wish she'd spent more time with your mum. Some people are so wrapped up in their own little world, they forget about the important things in life, and spending time with family should really be number one priority in my book.

Python

Can't do arrays
Base64 strings are a colossal PITA

I love the underlying philosphy but seriously, if you can't do arrays, what good are you?
