MEP and general election candidate Janice Atkinson has been expelled by UKIP for "bringing the party into disrepute".

Ms Atkinson's chief of staff Christine Hewitt has also been expelled, a party spokesman said.

Bringing the party into disrepute - I thought that was the job description for any UKIP member.

Do UKIP actually have any members left apart from Nigel? They seem to have expelled quite a few of them.

Maybe MrStevenRogers will have to stand for them ;)

Oh yeah, they've still got Roger Helmer. Now his Twitter feed is just the gift that keeps on giving.

Really? Wow, I had no idea. :P

I'm curious as how you'd respond if there was a referendum and it came back strongly in favour of the EU.

Everyone loves a referendum until it doesn't give the answer you want. :D

Which basically means abdicating your responsibility to your convictions. Pissing into the tent makes no difference. They’ll just move it, or zip the door shut.

A vote for UKIP is not a vote for a referendum. They may have changed their stance by demanding one from other parties, but if they did get to power, there would not be one. They’s basically take that as a mandate for leaving.

A referendum should involve more than the annoying circular argument you see week in and week out on QuestionTime where the ranting morons on both sides just retread the same old path with no resolution. It’s the “stuck record” method of arguing where the theory goers that if you repeat it often enough, more people will believe it. A sensible person would just turn his or her back on the whole sorry mess and carry on with more important things.

Suppose we leave the EU.
Quote:
The best case scenario in which Britain would secure a deal with the EU, implement a unilateral free trade arrangement and go for the maximum deregulation on EU rules such as scrapping all climate change targets. This would increase the UK’s GDP by 1.55%. But Persson said: “In political terms this would make Margaret Thatcher look like a socialist.”

this study does not include free unfettered trade with the rest of the world such as China, USA, Asia and (old) Commonwealth countries
only trading within the EU block, regardless of external trading be that EU or ourselves.

note
privatised UK energy companies are mostly owned by EU partner countries but the EU partner countries have state owned (nationalised) energy companies which own the UK privatised energy companies. i see no sense in doing business with the EU nationalised companies as a country (UK) which has privatised energy companies (as an example) only free trade with others

we will still trade with the EU but have our hands untied to trade with others without EU interference, looking forward to that day ...

Yes, it does.
Quote:
Beyond the border: Opening up the UK economy to trade with the rest of the world – including the USA, India, China and Indonesia – is essential to economic growth post-Brexit. However, this would mean exposing UK firms and workers to whole new levels of competition from low-cost countries, and would therefore be politically very sensitive.

ownership of the UK’s privatised companies (energy and public transport as examples) by EU state owned utilities has already crucified us
as private investors are competing with EU state owned Govt. backed investment in national privatised UK companies. i wonder who has more muscle

if it was going to crucify us by lowering wages big business in the UK would be biting at the bit to leave the EU
but big business in the UK have cheap labour and lower wages via EU free movement, that is what is crucify us ...

Are UKIP going to renationalise the utilities then? Or are they funded by the sort of person who made a lot of money off the sale?

Actually, you're better off with the EU employment laws than without.
Thanks to the EU, we have:

The Working Time Regulations 1998
The Equality Act 2010
The Agency Workers Regulations 2010
The Part Time Employees (Prevention of less Favourable Treatment) Regulations 2000
The Fixed Term Employees (Prevention of Less Favourable Treatment) Regulations 2002
Rights for pregnant workers and maternity leave rights – including discrimination rights for pregnancy and maternity under the Equality Act 2010
Parental Leave Rights
Equal Pay – rights under The Equality Act 2010.
Data Protection
Collective Redundancy Consultation in the Trade Union and Labour Relations Act 1992.
TUPE (Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) regulations 2006
Health and Safety
Human Rights Act 1998

Farage is mainly seeking to protect the interests of the people at the top of the pile.
UKIP's stance is to:
"We would review all legislation and regulations from the EU (3,600 new laws since 2010) and remove those which hamper British prosperity and competitiveness."
"We would negotiate a bespoke trade agreement with the EU to enable our businesses to continue trading to mutual advantage."
"UKIP would not seek to remain in the European Free Trade Area (EFTA) or European Economic Area (EEA) while those treaties maintain a principle of free movement of labour, which prevents the UK managing its own borders."
"We would reoccupy the UK’s vacant seat at the World Trade Organisation, ensuring that we continue to enjoy ‘most favoured nation’ status in trade with the EU, as is required under WTO rules."

The first point essentially means that your rights as a worker will most likely be diminished.
The second is entirely dependant on the EU.
The third is a demonstrable nonsense - immigration has brought wealth to the country (they contributed £20bn to the UK over a ten year period).

I also note they're keen to promote British culture, while at the same time doing nothing to support the arts and scrapping the Department for Culture Media and Sport.

Farage is being painted as somehow being an alternative to the establishment when he's nothing of the sort. He's from the same background, with the same interests as the rest of them.

If ever theres a law that needs re-looking at it is this one as constantly being abused and used as a smokescreen.
