Given I'm 45 and I clearly remember the 'British' Avengers, I'd say 'who the hell' is 'roughly half the non-immigrant population'.

'Film gets slightly different title in different market shocker' That story's a bit of a space filler, frankly.

I'm not a comic book fan. The Avengers has always been Steed and Mrs. Gale, Mrs. Peel and Tara. I haven't seen the Marvel film yet. Precisely. For a long time films in Germany had very different names. The Avengers (the UK TV series) is called "Mit Schirm, Charme und Melone" (with umbrella, charm and bowler) over here. Die Hard is Stirb Langsam (die slowly) Ice Cold in Alex is called Fire over Alexandria in German

So, as any good corporate PC should be (especially one still running Windows XP) you normally need to be logged in as an administrator to install software. Unfortunately, in their infinite wisdom, the IT department have managed to bork the Admin account so it needs to authenticate against the company firewall before you can download anything from t'internet. That was fine except that: 1 - they apparently hadn't told this to new IT staff 2 - they have now removed the special authenticate application so you can't move it anyway.
It wasn't looking good for downloading and installing Chrome on my computer. Except that it downloaded and installed in my own account (which very definitely isn't an admin one). Another IT triumph!

Chrome always installs locally to the user. It is one of the "bad" parts about Chrome, from a corporate point of view.

Drove into town yesterday and once I was in the carpark and got out the car, I noticed something important... I had forgotten my wallet! I had to call my wife and she had to make a trip into town and bring me my wallet! So a quick trip to pick up my repaired shoes from the shoe shop and buy a couple of t-shirts turned into a 3 hour excursion.

I remember the old The Avengers series, just like I remember Randall and Hopkirk deceased, The Man from UNCLE, The Champions, Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie, and many others. I'm in my early 30s and watched these shows around 10-15 when they would air on terrestial TV. Back before we had Channel 5.
EDIT: But I still wouldn't confused the British Tv series with an American comic superhero story.

Maplin. Chelmsford. Today. Decided that the first step in getting my SoundBurger working properly is to get the drive belts replaced (it has two for some gearing reason). Anyway, decided that Maplin may be the place to go - they seem to have a lot of stuff there, and if anywhere in town is going to stock what I need, it’s them. Yes, I know, I can order them online (from the USA, it seems), but I’ll exhaust local sources first. So I take the two drive belts out of the record player, and go to the shop. Big mistake. The person I spoke to seemed really uninterested in helping. He wanted to know what sizes they were because they “had loads” (this sounded good, BTW, as “loads ” implies that they’ll likely to have what I need). I didn’t know as I’ve not been able to find any information on the web about the actual sizes needed. As I had them with me, I thought he’d whip out a ruler and measure them. He didn’t. So I suggested this, and he wandered off, grabbed a builder’s tape measure (probably from a rack) and came back. We measured what I had (remembering that they are a little worn and saggy so take a few mm off for that). Not sure that a the tape measure was really what we should be using, but by then I was getting disillusioned by the whole attitude. So he then looks at the web site. There are not “lots”, but about 24 ( http://www.maplin.co.uk/search?text=dri ... PerPage=12 ). One may fit, but they don’t seem to have the larger of the two I need. So I went away empty handed. I dunno - I thought Maplin’s thing was if you had a problem like that, they’d be able to sort it out. Clearly not in this case.

I remember all of those. As to the American comic, if it wasn't for Ernie's comic book threads here, I wouldn't have known about them before the films were released. I'd also add the Saint, both the 30s version and the 60s version (plus Return of the Saint - I always wanted an XJS growing up), The Persauders and many others - there is one I can't remember the name of, a group of undercover agents from Europe, the old professor from Space 1999 was in it, I have a feeling it was French or French based.
