No "do not compete" clause in their contracts?

Might have died when their contracts weren't renewed.

Surely a contract would have to end one way or another before a "do not compete" comes into effect?

Sorry, I mean in the manner they weren't renewed, like a clause. It seems to have been a slightly strange set-up that was great for all at the time. The producer seemed to hold a lot more sway than normal as a good friend of Jez or whatever else for instance, but then it was who owned the rights, the format, the name... It all seemed a bit more complicated than a standard production. And the money it was making, who knows what was in the contracts as a result?

Guys you're just going to have to come to terms with the fact that Top Gear as you knew it is done.

Latest rumour is they are now in talks with Netflix.

Time to move on :)

PS Mods can we change this title to the 'formerly known as top gear' thread?

There may still be Top Gear again even if it's not Top Gear as previously known. Here's as good place as any to discuss if it's any good, should it appear.

Not admitting to his former employers that he's working on a motoring show. :-)

Top Gear: BBC in multimillion-pound James May and Richard Hammond bid | Media | The Guardian

As far as I'm concerned there's no way Clarkson should be allowed back. The Beeb already sullied itself week in week out with cheap racism that wouldn't have been tolerated on any other show.

Apparently Evans has filmed some sort of pilot too.

Just a reminder the stitches together show - and therefore the last outing for Top Gear in its current incarnation - is on this evening.

Watched the first half yesterday (classic cars) and I enjoyed it. Typical Top Gear stuff really.
