religion should go the way of the dinosaur thereby completely eradicated from the planet all religions and its followers supposedly communicate with their 'invisible friend' in any other walk of life this type of communication would get you locked up …

Presumably it isn't made from pork products and doesn't work on the Sabbath?

Religious fundamentalism in all its forms just seems to want to hold back civilisation and progress, doesn't it? Mind you, I'm all for closing shops on the sabbath. It used to be a nice quiet day, but now it's just another spending day. Is it any wonder we're all miserable and broke?

I see that the Police are working on the sabbath too. How does that work?

As long as the rabbinical authorities give them the okay, they should be fine.
Perhaps they get a Sabbath in lieu? Perhaps they have an agreement to celebrate a Sabbath on another day in the week?

By extension, you should not expect the following either: • Rail/bus/air/taxis to be working • TV/Radio to be broadcasting • RoyalMail sorting Monday’s post • Police & emergency services operating • Cinemas open • etc. Selecting shops out for special treatment is wrong if we expect others to also give up their so-called day of rest.

Ok, I'm gonna need a north-Londoner to comment on this one. A guy I work with used to live near Hampstead Heath (no jokes please, he's sick of them!) and married into a Golder's Green Jewish family, and he says this is a true story: Apparently, it's against temple rules to drive to temple on the sabbath, so the temple "elders"/community got in touch with the local council. Apparently, there is something in a jewish religious rule that says if you mark out an area with wire, anything within that area counts as "ok" and not work on the sabbath, so the communtiy paid thousands to have the council mark out an area, lampost by lampost, in which it's "ok" to drive to temple on the sabbath.......sounds like an urban legend to me, but he swears it's true

No legend, definitely true. There are several around London, I think.
