I didn't think Carolyn's comment was particularly curmudgeonly, although I would disagree with one point - just because somebody has had a long life doesn't mean we can't mourn their passing. Many people enrich the lives of others all throughout their own and the day that stops is still a sad day.

It has to be said though, Sir Christopher Lee lead a spectacularly eventful life, so if there's anyone of whom you can say 'well, there was nothing left for him to do', it was probably him you'd say it about..

A Desert Rat and SOE. Wow. As soon as I read that, I thought of Ian Flemming, then a couple of paragraphs later, step cousin... And he should have been Bond.

I loved that he cut off Errol Flynn's wig... While he was still wearing it. And that Flynn refused to come back on set, unless Lee said it was an accident. That probably taught Flynn not to try and maim fellow actors whilst being drunk on set.
