Mad Max (original) - It was way ahead of it's time, but a tough watch these days

I watched it when I was about 12 or so at a holiday camp on the South Coast (Norman's Bay, I think).

I found it exciting, but too gory. I now have them all on DVD, although I haven't watched them for a while though.

Oz came up with some great indie films back then.

Yeah, I'm working my way through the DVD trilogy here, part 2 later hopefully. I haven't seen them since I was a kid either.

Son of Batman - Animated, not bad, great fight scenes and humour, but you're expected to know the mythos and then conveniently forget it in places. Also has that annoying Japanese thing of characters just standing there staring ahead.

Mad Max 2 - Much better than the original. I just wish I'd been a teenager when I originally saw it!

It's surprising how well it looks in some places and nasty in others (dodgy framerates and so on). The action scenes are still far more interesting than the lazy crap we get today. As I understand it, this is a major selling point of the reboot. Once I've watched Thunderdome I'll be going to see it this week hopefully.

Avengers 2 - It's good, worth going to see

Just been to watch this. Firstly, gripe at Vue cinema. They encourage you to buy tickets at the self-booking machines, but they then make it near impossible. Want two tickets? That's fine. Move on to selecting your seats. Oh no you can't sit there because it leaves an empty seat. Oh no you can't sit there either. No you can't have the original choice because it leaves an empty seat by the aisle. FFS. It's not my fault you have a row of six seats and three are taken. We ended up sitting just behind the front row on the slope bit of seats. Hate sitting that far forward because you have to crane your neck up.

The film itself was okay. But just that. It didn't have the same impact as the original. I did have a sneak on SHH about the first main trailer a while back so I had a few expectations which I was surprised about not being met. The action scenes were good and fluid like in the original - you'll see each Avenger doing their own bit but working together as a team. The only other thing I'll mention is that there was a surprising amount of cleavage on screen and it's not something I'd normally pick up.

It feels too long in a way the original coped better with

I never looked at my watch and that's a marker for me of whether a film's engaging enough - if it is, you don't even think about looking at your watch.

Mind you, the villain's too good to over-use at least.

In some ways, I wished he was used more. The entire thing didn't really come across as menacingly as it should have. There were a few brutal scenes which did help.

Mad Max Fury Road.
Loved it.
Wanted them to show it again as soon as it finished.

Mad Max 3 - I'd forgotten how this one makes the other two look sensible. I'd also forgotten Tina Turner has the strangest speech patterns... At least I'm going to see the reboot later.

Mad Max: Fury Road - The first twenty minutes or so didn't win me or the crowd in the cinema over (phones out), but after that, it becomes one of the best action films you'll have seen in years. Go and see it on the big screen. I'm already shopping for t-shirts.

Very slight negative points follow; don't read them 'til after you've seen the film as I don't wanna colour anyone's opinion beforehand..................... Miller has once again got away with recycling the previous film(s)... I can't help wondering if Hardy's kinda playing second fiddle to everyone else because his accent is so bloody awful... people really need to stop talking from behind masks in films.

Snowpiercer.

I'm at the moment contemplating if this is THE worst film I've ever seen, or only just the most grossly overrated.

Only on DVD.
I don't want to own the damn thing.
I'll have to wait for it to be on TV in some form or other.
