Hello all, In similar vein to the 20p thread the other week ( Clicky), I saw on the news that some 2p pieces have been minted incorrectly. This is not a recent error, however, so these are even rarer than the 20p pieces. If you happen to find one, they will sell for between £500 and £1000 depending on the condition. The affected coins are minted with the year 1983 and contain the wording "New pence" on the tails side of the coin. This wording was meant to be dropped for "Two pence" in the early 1980s, but some coins were indeed minted with this outdated wording. I have been through every coin I own, but the newest coin with the "New pence" wording is 1981, unfortunately. Hope this helps somebody! Peter.

D'you know, since the 20p thing hit the news, I haven't seen a single 'new style' 20p piece. Not one. Loads of old style ones, no new. I'm assuming the royal mint has withdrawn them for some reason...

Everywhere I go, I ask for my change in 20p pieces. It's like looking for a golden ticket, but I am determined in case a shopkeeper hasn't checked their coins! Peter.

I don't know about everywhere else, but every shop in this village checks them every day...

Oh dear lord, I have tonnes of two pence pieces! I shall have to go through them soon.
Peter, do you have a link for this news story?

The best I can find at the moment is this on the Daily Mail website. It mentions about these 2p pieces a few paragraphs underneath the 20p image. Peter.

Darn it. I banked a few bags of cash only last week, including at least two bags of 2p coins.

I thought the whole point of the 20p thing was that it was the first coin with a mistake, this smells of hoax to me.

It's not a hoax, I know personally of two people in this village alone who have 20 pence pieces with no date on. I have personally seen one of them.

Oh I see. I'm not sure about the two pence pieces, tbh. if true I would have thought it would have come to light much sooner (and maybe it did, and it only resurfaced in light of the mistake with the 20 pence pieces).

Life is too short to spend it scrutinising small change.

If 2p can buy me a decent macro lens, I'm game. Three or four and I can get a fast telephoto lens, but that's almost certainly wishful thinking.

I've heard about the New Pence thing Chris. Infact, my dad told me before the news or anything did. I'll have to have a look in the coin jar later. Theres got to be one in there...
