BBC to Review Use of "Islamic State" - Hollywood Reporter - The Hollywood Reporter http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/b ... ate-805911Oh, FFS. 'No, you can't use the name they call themselves and that everyone knows them by because actually it's a bit indicative of how efficient we've let them become.'

Typical of a modern politician to believe the image is more important than the substance (although, given recent election results..).
Nobody gave a damn when we called The IRA 'The IRA'. It didn't make anybody feel any more favourable towards THAT particular bunch of murderous bastards, I doubt very much if using the name 'Islamic State' rather than ISIL/ISIS/ISIA will make anyone feel more favourable to THIS murderous bunch of bastards, especially given what the 'IS' in all those three names means anyway.
As for 'so called'? Really? I know Cameron apparently conducts most of his politics as if it's an argument in the playground, but exactly how childish do you want to appear? It's like when lunatic American politicians take offense to the rest of the civilised world not joining in with one of their il-fated military escapades and announce they want french fries to be renamed 'Freedom fries'. Everybody pointed and laughed, and that's exactly what should happen in this case.
Let's not [lifted] about having an argument about what they're called, let's just get on with stopping them, eh?

I'm all for it if it saves me a moments confusion when I glance at headlines referring to the International Space Station.

The BBC will continue to call it "so called Islamic State" - which is the phrase they have always used.
IS to me means "Income Support" - something I was involved with for a few years in the 1980s.

Ah yes, because it's nothing to do with Islam™ as Cameron keeps telling us.

ISIL, which he likes to use, means “Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant”. So, err...

I'd always heard it as the Iraq and Levant version, probably because they are the bits they've been merrily overrunning. Didn't think they'd gotten into Libya in force - it's a mess for other reasons.
