US golfer Bubba Watson is to paint over the Confederate flag on the car from the Dukes of Hazzard TV series, as part of a growing backlash against the rebel symbol from the US Civil War.

So, it’s “how’s your outrage” time? Also: “Bubba”.

Sorry, that is silly. If we disowned our complete heritage every time something used used part of it negatively we would be in a bad way. :?

The General Lee stood for freedom and a way of life that stuck it to the corrupt man.

If somebody hijacks the symbol today, it doesn't make the original invalid.

Heck, if that were the case, the RAF would have abandoned their roundel in the 60s and we wouldn't have a Union Jack any more...

They haven't banned parts of their own history, they have banned the glorification of it and the use of certain symbols to promote those things in a positive form - although it is true that the book Mein Kampf has been banned, but there is no denying national socialism here, you just can't say it was a good thing.

It's a flag that represented people who thought "As a people we are fighting maintain the Heaven-ordained supremacy of the white man over the inferior or colored race; a white flag would thus be emblematical of our cause. — William T. Thompson (April 23, 1863), Daily Morning News"

Or, to quote my American friend from Atlanta, Georgia - "It's the flag of a vanquished foe. It has no business being flown anywhere."

Normally by this stage of any thread you would be lecturing us on how the Germans do things. Is there perchance some historical flag that they are ashamed of and which they no longer like people to fly?

Is the Dukes of Hazzard racist?
http://www.inquisitr.com/2227323/dukes- ... formation/

You know what, when this was on telly, I didn’t really know or care what the flag meant. I knew it was from the civil war, but I was 10. I had a Letraset action transfer set which was a civil war scene. I was more interested in the hats that looked like baseball caps. Hazzard was about people in cars chasing about, crashing, and Boss Hogg ending up in a river/horse trough/muddy puddle pretty much every week.
