Kinda reminds me of the 'Mr.T versus' series that was popular on the internet before Chuck Norris facts and related were.

But my fave was Mr. T vs Bin Laden.

Dunno about M16s specifically, but they've definitely used variants of it like the AR-15 (they're made by Armalite):

EDIT - that might actually be an AR of some description Bratty, esp. considering how old the pic is.

To be fair, that image could be of almost any urban terrorist.
I suppose the IRA simply use whatever arms they can get their hands on.

I was just about to post something similar :)

It's also the weapon used by the gang in Robocop, though obviously done-up and exaggerated ;)

Lol at JV

edit - Hang on, what enemy Bratty? The British Army? Far as I knew they got them from the States :?

IIRC, I read that the last soldier killed in NI with a Barrett had the round go through the front of his bullet-vest, through him, out the back of the vest and only stopped when it lodged in his metal drink holder. And the shot was taken from some distance away... I believe it's an anti-tank rifle, or at least can be used as such.

Nah, usually Armalites, although the M16 is just an evolution of the AR-15...they also loved the AR-18, which is smaller than the 15...

Hell, they even managed to procure a shipment of M60 machine guns at one stage!

But, no, they very rarely, if ever, used actual M16s and, though there was quite a number of AK-47s shipped from Libya, loads of them were seized when one of the vessels was captured by the authorities. Plus, there were loads more Armalites than AK-47s, so they're not really famous at all for using them.

In their time, I think they've had everything from AR-15s to AK-47s to Bren machine guns to MP5 sub-machine guns to DShK HMGs and even SA-7 SAMs. And, of course, tonnes of Semtex.

Nice discussion for the 12th, BTW. ;)

Well, IRA, obviously, not because I support them, but purely because they're Irish.

If it rained on the battlefield, the Taliban would be screwed. :P

You see, if you put that thought in my mind about the time the Troubles were flaring up in the early 1970s, I’d tell you that neither would win because the rain would make the bombs all wet and they wouldn’t go off. At the time, bombs=big fireworks, and I knew that if fireworks got wet, they would not work.

These days, I know more about plasticine explosive and BB guns, so I know that wetness would not work.

Given that the USA helped find both sides at one time or another, I’d say it was evenly matched.
