Good quite frankly. The MP's need to wake up and realise how far they've wandered away from their core support.
Yes, in order to stand a decent chance of getting into government you need to present a reasonably centred position but IMHO Labour have been sleepwalking past the centre and into the right for far too long.

Oh Lord. I'm just watching Frank Fields on the BBC news channel basically saying "We're not here to listen to the electorate, we're here to do what we think is right and if they don't like it they can vote us out."

The lack of self-awareness and just.. humility is bordering on staggering.

So you get to do what you like and every five years the people who you 'represent' get to make one single opinion on that known? Wow, thanks Frank, I bet your constituents are really happy to hear that.

Would the rebellion against Harriet Harman have happened to a man? | Lucy Webster | Comment is free | The Guardian
http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfre ... lfare-vote

She's utterly useless, and that became apparent years ago! Being smarter than her wouldn't be difficult, never mind seeing the blindingly obvious in political strategy - that's not sexism or misogyny ffs.

From my own perspective, I'd pick Cooper!

Jeremy Corbyn given huge lead in new poll

We all know what polls are worth but watching various people run around waving their arms in the air about it is amusing.

Liz Kendall    Who the blazes convinced her to run for the leadership? Oh sorry, it's the rest of the parliamentary party isn't it? That explains it...

I'm liking the recriminations flying around against the people who lent Corbyn the votes to get onto leadership list. Calling people who actually have created a real debate in the party morons seems to be a bit rich.
It would be interesting to see how the various groups eligible to vote (MP's, party members, affiliate members and the £3 sign up people) break down in their support of the different candidates.

“Stop coming up with popular policies,” say Corbyn rivals for Labour leadership – “people might vote for us!”

It's interesting that those - including Tony Blair - who caution against 'not repeating the mistakes the past' seem much more bothered about the mistakes of 30 years ago than they are about the mistakes of 3 months ago....

That tells you everything you need to know about Labour. It's like office politics on a ridiculous scale.

I hope 'leave it to the boys' is a loose term and not Harman-style sh1te. It's hilarious how much someone who can think for themselves frightens them. The party clearly hasn't the wit to realise that many of it's members want substance. They won't get that from Burnham or Kendall, but I fully expect Burnham to win, unfortunately. Cooper doesn't have much of a profile if the press is anything to go by.

The fact that as soon as it appears the vote isn't going to go the way they planned it to the PLP decide the only solution is to stitch things up and sod the principle of democracy tells you everything you need to know about the current PLP.

"You aren't going to vote for who we want you to? Who the HELL do you think you are?"

Yvette Cooper hits out at 'startlingly retro' Labour leadership campaign | Politics | The Guardian
http://www.theguardian.com/politics/201 ... p-campaign

At best it looks like she's telling the paper what it wants to hear, at worst she's playing to their increasingly ridiculous feminist agenda. Nothing wrong with such an agenda at all, but some of it's well past satire now.

Corbyn could be stopped by talking about the economy and linking it to the equality issue - it's not like the Tories aren't providing ammo there. You immediately look credible to the party faithful relative to a guy who'd look more at home with the Lib Dems if they had spines.

Labour will have to pick a battleground for the future and the leadership election is perfect for setting out stalls. 'But look at how well Cameron did by being a bland twat!'

By the time they realise Ed was on the right track but couldn't personally sell it, the Tories will be so entrenched nothing short of another financial crisis will shift them.

Well perhaps Ms. Cooper you should actually come out fighting with some decent policies that actually distinguish you from the other candidates rather than moaning about how terribly unfair it is to actually have to fight your corner.

Just like the PLP none of the non-Corbyn candidates actually appear willing to properly listen to party supporters or draw different conclusions from the election result than those being espoused by the likes of Kendall and Harman. The seem especially keen to not mention what happened in Scotland where they were confronted by a party espousing a genuinely anti-austerity platform.

Yeah, there's definite blind spot there. To be fair, they wouldn't have won even IF Scotland hadn't gone SNP but when they say things along the lines of 'we must do what it takes to win back middle England', what immediately springs to mind is

1) They're effectively saying 'we're never going to get Scotland back, so screw them', which seems particularly cowardly.
2) They're also giving up on the English poor, presumably on the basis that they don't vote in great numbers. While apparently not considering that they don't vote because nobody is presenting a set of policies other than "We're going to kick you in the arse repeatedly for five years".

They're going mad over the small portion of voters who switched from Labour to Tory/UKIP while apparently assuming none of the whopping great chunk of the electorate who voted for The SNP, The Greens or for nobody at all can be convinced to vote for them.

Jeremy Corbyn draws fire for position on Britain's EU future | Politics | The Guardian
http://www.theguardian.com/politics/201 ... membership

So he gives way more detail than anyone else, only to be accused of not setting out where he stands and being a no campaigner! And by someone who should know better like Alan Johnson, too. It's no wonder the rank and file are grouping round Corbyn with supposed colleagues like that.

So he might actually have a policy I approved of.
