Fair enough.. presuming the fact the managers in question a) Realise it's THEIR massive mistake b) Are willing to front up about the fact to get it fixed. c) Haven't already ****ed off to whatever the next place to benefit from their 'talents' might be (You may infer something from this about my current management. I couldn't possibly comment.) I'm sure there are ways to do it if they wanted to. However the way they seem to want to do things, any such work would be a standard contract job, so there's no guarantee the people they get in to fix it will know how things used to be.

That's the immediate reaction, certainly. To be fair to them, it is 'cheers, and here's a pile of cash we're not legally required to give you'. So there's a reason to play nice. Which is exactly why their doing it, but then again you can't eat principles.

That went yesterday. Today I'm barely mobile! Although the boss brought cakes and doughnuts for sysadmin day so I managed to leave my seat for those.

Hmm, caught bit off Columbo: identity crisis. It's got Leslie Nielsen in it. I keep expecting him to revert to Frank Drebin at some point.
