Why isn't everything sandboxed in this day and age where possible?

Security bug allows remote attack of Uconnect system, letting hackers apply the brakes, kill the engine and take control of steering over the internet

And thus, when I come to change my car, I will be looking for something from the 1960s.

BMW also still need to update their vehicles. After the debacle at the beginning of the year, where every vehicle with the connected media system could be unlocked, because they used the same SSL key for every car, they update most of them, but the i3 and i8 models are still affected by the problem, according to c't magazine, which is about 22,000 vehicles. They need another software update, which is currently being sent out.

Edit: As this Fiat problem is a remote hacking problem, it is probably good that owners cannot update their cars directly over the internet - at least they can't fall foul of a man-in-the-middle attack on the update as well.

There's another Bridgestone-style scandal in the offing about this.
